Seminar Topics Friday, October 3, 6:30pm-9:00pm Smart Evangelization in the Scientific Age- Many people search for truth and do not recognize that what, or rather Who, they are searching for is ultimately God, the source of all good. Rather than playing into the old adage that faith and science are in conflict, learn how scientific progress actually gives us more opportunities for evangelization than ever before.
Contemporary Issues in the Biological Sciences- In this second presentation, we will dive into current topics at the intersection of the biological sciences, philosophy, and theology. These include evolution, bioethics, neuroscience, and beginning and end-of-life issues.
Saturday, October 4, 9:00am-12:00pm Contemporary Issues in the Physical Sciences- In this third presentation, we will dive into current topics at the intersection of the physical sciences, philosophy, and theology. These include materialism, atomism, free will, quantum theory, and artificial intelligence.
Bringing the Scientific Revolution Full Circle- The Scientific Revolution is said to have occurred in the 16th and 17th centuries. We can look back now and try to understand the divide in religion and science with the goal of looking to the future and how to reintegrate science, philosophy, and theology in a more advanced way. The faithfulness of God inspires faith in us. We will end with a consideration of science as the study of the handiwork of God.
Dr. Stacy Trasancos
Stacy Trasancos has a Ph.D. in chemistry from Penn State University and worked as a senior research chemist for DuPont before converting to Catholicism. She left her career to stay home with her highly complex composite systems who call her Mommy. In those years, she earned a M.A. in dogmatic theology in between synthesizing meals, doing housework, and keeping a large family together. She took up writing and has published five books on the integration of science and theology. She is working on a second doctorate, this time in philosophy at St. Patrick's Pontifical University in Ireland. Dr. Trasancos teaches online science and theology courses for Seton Hall University and Holy Apostles College and Seminary, is a Fellow of the Word on Fire Institute, and frequently appears on Catholic radio, podcasts, and television. After the publication of her book, Particles of Faith, Forbes wrote, "Trasancos represents a very rare bird, the scientist who did not cease to be a geek even after she got religion."
