Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC) are members of the congregation who are commissioned to help with the distribution of communion at Mass. With additional training, some Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion extend this ministry to those in hospitals and homebound. Training is scheduled at various times throughout the year and will be publicized in the parish bulletin.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are men and women who are:
- Registered parishioners
- Fully initiated members of the Church having received Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation
- In full communion with the Catholic Church. If they are married, it must be a sacramental marriage in the Catholic Church
- Regularly receiving the Sacraments in the Church; of genuine Eucharistic faith, living exemplary Catholic lives, with a love of the Eucharist and a heart for service
- at least 18 years of age or a senior in high school
- of sound psychological maturity and physically able to freely maneuver around the altar as needed
- Cannot be co-habiting couples, members of forbidden organizations (e.g., Free Masonry, etc.)
DRESS CODE FOR MASS: Simple, modest and appropriate Sunday dress. Gentlemen are to wear suits or a sportscoat with tie and dress slacks. Ladies are to wear a modest dress or pant suits/dress slacks/blouse. No jeans, shorts, mini-skirts, leggings, yoga pants, sneakers, flip-flops, tank tops, spaghetti strap/strapless tops or shirts with inappropriate slogans.
