Middle School Ministry Letter

We are excited to share an important update regarding our ministry to the middle school students here at St. Laurence Catholic Church. Beginning this year, our program will transform from “Edge” to “Middle School Ministry” (MSM). 

This change comes after much prayer and discernment, and reflection on the needs of the young people in our parish today. In an ever-changing culture, our middle school students are facing new challenges, questions, and experiences every day. By moving beyond a single curriculum model, we are creating the flexibility to select topics, discussions, and experiences that more directly address what our students are going through and what they most desire to learn about in their faith lives. 

This transformation will allow us to dive deeper and more intentionally into important topics while creating opportunities for students to encounter a faith that is experiential, hands-on, engaging, and fun. Our hope is not only to teach students about the faith, but to help them truly experience the love of Christ and the life of the Church in meaningful and lasting ways. 

We are also excited to announce a return to weekly gatherings instead of biweekly meetings. We believe this consistency will foster stronger community, deeper relationships, and greater spiritual growth among our students. In addition to our Wednesday sessions, we will also offer a once-a month Sunday experience designed to connect our middle schoolers more intentionally to the Mass- the source and summit of our Catholic faith. 

As we take this exciting step forward, we also recognize that a thriving weekly ministry requires the support of our parish community. In order to make this vision possible, we will need parents and parishioners to prayerfully consider stepping into volunteer roles within the Middle School Ministry. Whether through small group leadership, substituting, event assistance, or hall monitoring, your involvement can make a lasting impact. 

While the name of the program is changing, our mission remains the same: to lead our middle school students closer to Christ and accompany them as they grow in faith, community, and discipleship.
