How to Choose a Sponsor:In addition to your parents and Life Teen small group leaders, we ask that you choose a sponsor to be a part of your journey. This is another spiritual coach or mentor for you. Choose someone who you admire for their faith and who can help you grow closer to Christ.It is recommended that a sponsor be chosen by the candidate. When a candidate's Baptismal godparent is available, capable, and willing to perform the role as Confirmation sponsor, "it is desirable to choose as sponsor the one who undertook the same function at Baptism."(Code of Canon Law, canon 893)

Make sure you are qualified to be a Sponsor in the Catholic Church (see below for qualifications)
- I am a mature person of faith who is convinced that my faith makes a difference in my life.
- I will participate with the candidate in his/her preparation & celebration of Confirmation.
- I am designated by the one to be confirmed, by the parents or the person who takes their place or, in their absence by the pastor or minister and have the aptitude and intention of fulfilling this function.
- I have completed the sixteenth year of age, unless the diocesan bishop has established another age, or the pastor or minister has granted an exception for a just cause.
- I am a Catholic who has been confirmed and has already received the most holy sacrament of the Eucharist and who leads a life of faith in keeping with the function to be taken on (e.g., if married, marriage must be recognized by the Catholic Church as valid).
- I am not bound by any canonical penalty legitimately imposed or declared.
- I am not the father or mother of the one to be confirmed.
